New 50 Mile PR

Until Saturday at the Leona Divide, my fastest 50 mile trail PR was my 50 mile split at Vermont 2 years ago.  Although if I included road races too, the Comrades in 2001 would be slightly faster (on a longer course) at 8:50 — my first ultra, running a negative split for a Bill Rowan [...]

Leona results

I took a photo of the first 70 or so finishing times. When I left, there were quite a few still out on the course. Jorge and Krissy took the top honors again. Full report soon.

Goodbye Sierra Madre

Well…Lucy just left with her husband Greg in a big U-haul for Boise, with most of her stuff, which means there’s no furniture anymore in the house, including my bed I was borrowing — not even a single chair. A lot of my belongings are still here, including both my bikes, bike case, plus [...]

Sahara crossing

It’s back!

Sarah/Wendell and I were chatting about the UD bottles and how much we preferred the old-school cap versus the nipple thing they came up with, and how I was treating my last remaining 3 I have left like gold.  Well…they were happy to inform me that Ultimate Direction has begun selling those again.

Heart risks at the finish line

Signs of possible cardiac damage have been found in some marathoners. More screening may be wise, a researcher says.

#263

Hopefully that number will make it across the finish line at Auburn early Sunday morning on June 24th.
Watch me live here.
Full listing here.
Btw, the guy that’s going to surprise everyone this year will be Jae-Duk Sim — if he runs WS like how he ran Massanutten last year, he’s going to win. You heard [...]

Boston run (or swim?)

Final update: Al Harman finishes in 3:31:31.
12:17 EST: Lidiya Grigoreyeva wins the women’s race in 2:29:18. Deena Kastor takes the American title in 2:27:06, coming in 5th overall. Robert Cheruiyot wins in the slowest time since 1985 in 2:07:25. Peter Gilmore is the first American male, finishing in 2:09:24, 8th overall. [...]

2 minutes/mile

That’s exactly how much faster I ran the Santa Monica 50K yesterday, which worked out to be just more than an hour difference from the previous year!  Why the wide variation, I still can’t figure out for sure, but part/most of it was due to the perfect weather we were blessed with — cool temperatures [...]

Karl does it again

Course record at McNaughton 17:42, with Akos Konya runner-up at 18:55 — both times unofficial.
