#5
That’s my bib number, and also the number of times I will have attempted (and hopefully completed) the San Diego 100, which will be held this weekend. This race is special to me in that it was my first undertaking at the 100 mile distance back in 2004.
It all started like this:
Date: 2004/10/11 Mon AM [...]

Well Done at the Ohlone
Well Done…to Catra for finishing her Ohlone solo 100 mile run — this year was #5 for her.
Well Done…is how I ended up after getting cooked in the 100+ degree temperatures out on the course.
The plan was for me to pace Catra the latter half of her solo 100, which consisted of 3X The Ohlone [...]

A fun-filled weekend in store…
I’m headed up to NoCal to help Catra do her solo Ohlone 100 miler. I’m supposed to meet up with her along the course for support, then pace her from around the half-way point, then we’ll eventually join up with the actual race to finish in her goal of around 34 hours. Sounds pretty crazy, [...]

Record Temperature and Time Set
…at the 2008 Old Goats 50M/50K
Akos Konya (8:18:49) shattered David Dean and Ashley’s shared winning times from last year, as temperatures soared into the 90’s — both stats were entered in the record books. Keira Henninger (9:08:10), who was second fastest last year, managed to do the same again, but became first overall female. Ted [...]

Marathon PR — finally!
To all you doubters…yes, this is an actual race report. :-)
Yesterday during my 9th running of the LA Marathon, I finally managed to break 3:30 for a PR — finishing officially in 3:28:15. That barrier has haunted me for almost 10 years, getting close several times, but never going below that 8 min/mi pace. I [...]

Getting caught up…or at least trying
Well, I still need to finish my HURT race report (are you getting sick of hearing that yet?), but wanted to fill y’all in on some recent happenings in the meantime.
I didn’t apply to Western States this year, so will need to start over again in 09 for my attempt at the Last Great Race. [...]

Aloha!
Ok…I meant to do a year-end summary, but of course like all my previous race reports I was going to write, it just didn’t happen. Oh well…maybe I should make that a goal for 2008, but don’t hold me to it.
So my race year will start off again with the HURT 100 — one of [...]

2007 stats on 100 milers
A friend of mine forwarded this to me from the Ultra list. Pretty interesting statistics. Over 2000 runners completed at least 1 100 mile race this year, and almost 300 finished 2, with only 20 finishing 5 or more. I think it would be somewhat interesting to also see how many more started a race [...]

Western States — not gonna happen in 2008
I wrote Greg an e-mail when I didn’t see my name on the list, and he informed me that my application didn’t arrive until 2-3 days after the deadline. ??? :-( I found that to be odd, since I mailed it at least a week before — 8+ days for first class mail to [...]
